They’re not moving.  You can’t see them unless you really, really look for them.  But they’re there.  Bugs.  And like many of us, just waiting for warmer weather to get out and about.  70% to 80% of the insects in Albuquerque ‘winter over’, hiding in the leaves and bark and building up quite an appetite!

They aren’t eating, but they are breathing.  And now is the perfect time to put a stop bugsinbarkto that with an inexpensive, non toxic product called “horticultural oil” or “dormant oil”.  It kills the bugs by suffocating them.  It’s not a ‘kill all’ – the borers that will be coming after your fruit trees and cottonwoods, and the worms that will be coming after your apples won’t be affected, but dealing with 70% to 80% of the enemy before they eat breakfast is a great way to start the battle, don’t you think?

DormantOilandSprayersIt comes in a pre-mixed sprayer or a concentrate that you can either add to a tank sprayer or to a hose end sprayer.  If you only have one or two trees or shrubs to treat, the spray bottle may be all you need.  If you have more plants than just one or two, you get a lot more for your money with the concentrate.

We have a great supply of Bonide All Seasons horticultural oil at both our locations, along with the most precise hose-end sprayer on the market, by Fertilome.  This high quality sprayer allows dilutions as thin as 1 teaspoon per gallon and does not contaminate the product you are using, so you don’t waste a drop!  You can spray a broad fan pattern or shoot a stream more than twenty five feet into the upper branches, and use this sprayer for a variety of products during the season.  No mixing, just dial and spray!

Our staff will also instruct you on how to properly care for your sprayer so that it lasts you for many seasons.
